Rescue operations continued into Friday at the Moshi waste-to-energy plant in Pimpri Chinchwad after the administrative building collapsed during a garbage slide, leaving several workers trapped under the debris.
Officials said one death had been confirmed, while eight people were still unaccounted for at the latest update. Emergency teams remained at the site as families awaited word on the missing workers.
The rescue effort was being slowed by unstable mounds of waste, fallen concrete and the presence of toxic gases inside the collapse zone. These conditions made it difficult for teams to safely clear debris and reach those feared trapped.
